FAQs
About MIIRA
-
MIIRA is an insider-led travel company offering small-group and private journeys through Greece.
MIIRA was founded by friends Silver (Crete-based) and Sophia (Australian-based), from a shared love of our motherland and a desire to share it with like-minded women.
We create immersive experiences centred around food, culture, connection and local knowledge, giving guests access to a side of Greece most visitors never see.
-
While our trips are relaxed and intentionally paced, MIIRA is not a retreat. We focus on culture, food, connection, beautiful experiences and seeing Greece through local eyes.
-
Yes - although our definition of luxury is different. Luxury to us means beautiful accommodation, exceptional food, small groups, insider access, seamless logistics and experiences that can't easily be found or replicated independently.
-
Many women are looking for travel that feels immersive and personal without requiring months of planning.
MIIRA offers exactly this. Our curated, insider-led experiences sit in the stage of life between youth travel and later life travel, and are designed for women who want a real taste of Greece as it is truly lived. Expect beautiful stays, long meals, local producers, boat days, active days in nature, and slow moments enjoying the culture and landscape. The best group trips balance independence, comfort, connection and authentic experiences.
-
MIIRA isn't a traditional tour company.
Our experiences are personally hosted, shaped by our Greek roots and life on the ground.
Each trip is built around the places, people and traditions that have shaped our lives, and that we would choose for ourselves.
Rather than ticking off landmarks, we focus on authentic local experiences, meaningful connections, quiet luxury, and the Greece we'd share with our own friends and family.
-
Absolutely. Many guests join us solo. MIIRA is designed for women who want the freedom of travelling independently with the comfort of a thoughtfully hosted small group experience.
-
Most MIIRA guests are women in their late 30s, 40s and 50s, although age matters far less than mindset.
Our guests are curious, adventurous, love good food, appreciate beautiful surroundings and value meaningful experiences over rushed sightseeing.
-
To ensure every experience is intimate and flexible for the special experiences we arrange, we aim for groups of 10-12 guests.
-
Yes. We offer private experiences for groups of 8 or more guests (including family and friends of all ages). Perfect for milestone celebrations, we’ll design a bespoke trip for your group drawing on our insider knowledge for a beautiful and unforgettable experience.

Getting to Greece
-
You do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in the Schengen Area (which includes Greece). Always check your government’s travel advice before departure.
-
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date and issued within the last 10 years.
-
Most international travellers arrive via Athens International Airport (ATH), although you can fly direct to some islands in high season. We recommend Skyscanner as a no-cost flight planner, to help plan your trip.
From Athens, you can reach the islands by plane or ferry.
Domestic airlines operating within Greece are Aegean Airlines and Sky Express.
Major ferry companies are Blue Star Ferries, Seajets and Hellenic Seaways. We recommend Ferryscanner to compare options, although you can often pick up a deal booking directly through the ferry companies online.
-
We recommend that you arrive in Athens at least one day before your trip begins, to ensure a smooth transfer to your trip destination.
Travelling in Greece
-
The best way is to spend time with people who live there.
That's why MIIRA experiences focus on local hosts, family-run businesses, traditional food, village life and experiences rooted in the communities we know personally.
-
There is no single answer, but Crete consistently stands out for travellers seeking extraordinary food, dramatic landscapes, beautiful beaches, mountain villages, ancient history and a culture that remains deeply connected to local traditions. It's also large enough to feel like a destination rather than a backdrop.
-
Slow travel prioritises quality over quantity. Rather than rushing between destinations, it allows travellers to spend more time connecting with a place, its people and its culture.
MIIRA facilitates this through a thoughtfully planned yet unhurried itinerary, with just the right amount of spontaneity and flexibility to make the trip your own.
-
Yes, especially on mainland Greece and on major islands where tourism is well-established.
-
Greece uses the Euro (€).
-
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Greece, and ATMs are widely available. We highly recommend carrying cash for the duration of your trip, as some suppliers or experiences may not accept card payments.
It is preferable to use ATMs attached to major banks, and opting to pay in Euros rather than your own currency.
-
A SIM or eSIM is usually the easiest and cheapest option for phone/data access while travelling.
For SIM, local Greek providers are Cosmote, Vodafone Greece and Wind.
Popular eSIM providers are Holafly and Airalo.
Otherwise, check with your provider about international roaming costs.
-
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all MIIRA trips.
It should cover (at least):
Medical expenses
Trip cancellations
Lost luggage
Emergency evacuation
-
Hospitals, medical clinics and pharmacies are widely available on all destinations MIIRA visits.
Should you require medical assistance for an emergency, the local number is 112. MIIRA will assist you in the unlikely event of an emergency.
